Calculate the overhead in bit and time in using asynchronous communication. For asynchronous transmission, assume each character is 7 bits and the overhead is 3 bits (start, stop, and parity bit).

40 mb*(1,000,000 bytes)/(1 mb)*(8 bits)/(1 byte)=320,000,000 bits total in data

320,000,000 bits*character/(7 bits)*(3 bits)/character=137,142,858 bits of overhead

137,142,858 bits of overhead*second/(64,000 bits)=2,142.86 seconds to transmit overhead without data included

320,000,000 bits+137,142,858 bits=457,142,858 bits total to be transferred

457,142,858 bits*second/(64,000 bits)=7,142.86 seconds to transmit data and overhead
